The LI-7500A or LI-7200 with the LI-7550 Analyzer Interface Unit is a network-based instrument.
Multiple users can log data from a single instrument over multiple TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) connections.
Therefore, the LI-7500A and LI-7200 use Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) for their onboard time-keeping tasks. The default time stamp is UTC time,
but the LI-7550 clock can be set to any time you desire.
For Eddy Covariance measurements, local standard time is generally recommended because it does not get adjusted for daylight saving time.
The clock in the LI-
7550 running instrument (embedded) software versions between 4.1.1 and 7.3.1 automatically adjusts for daylight savings time based on the
time zone users have selected.
The embedded software can automatically determine whether daylight savings time is adopted in a time zone. If daylight savings time is not adopted in a
country such as China, the clocks do not change.
When an automatic clock adjustment for daylight savings time occurs on the LI-7550, 1) all of the time stamps in the data records will shift one hour
forward from the start to the end of daylight saving time, and 2) one hour of data will be lost prior to the start of daylight savings time.
Using local
standard time will eliminate those two shifts.To set the LI-7550 clock to local standard time, select “Etc/GMT + offset” in the time zone pull-down menu of the Settings window.
The offset displayed in these time zone names has its sign reversed from what is commonly used. For example, US Pacific Standard
Time is eight hours behind UTC (UTC-8:00), and in the database this time zone is listed as ‘Etc/GMT+8’. To set the LI-7550 clock to US Pacific Standard
Time, select “Etc/GMT+8” in the time zone and adjust the time and date to local time and date using the ‘Time’ field, as shown below.
